Things to consider before you purchase a hedgehog:

 

I understand that hedgehogs are primarily nocturnal and may not wish to be played with until the evening hours.

I understand that a hedgehog has its own personality and may not enjoy being handled or played with at all times.

I understand that their quills are sharp and I will get poked on a regular basis.

I understand that hedgehogs have very sharp teeth, and I may get bitten as anything with teeth can and may bite. (Although this is relatively uncommon)

I understand that a hedgehog needs to kept warm (ideal is 74-78 degrees), and will use an appropriate heat source in order to provide the extra warmth my pet requires.

I understand that I may be defecated and urinated on by my hedgehog; especially when it is a baby.

I understand that my hedgehog will need out of cage time to run around and it is up to me to provide a safe environment for it to do so.

I understand that a hedgehog is by nature a solitary creature and may never actively seek me out for attention.

I understand that hedgehogs need a high quality varied diet and I’m willing to provide this no matter the cost.

I understand that my hedgehog will need its cage and water bottle cleaned at least once a week.

I understand that hedgehogs have exercise needs and I will provide a proper wheel and a spacious cage for him/her.

I understand that all animals get sick, injured, or develop problems that will need to be treated by a knowledgeable veterinarian and I will have my hedgehog treated no matter the cost.

I understand that if I cannot afford to care for my hedgehog that the best thing for the hedgehog will be to return it to Kelly’s Quills for proper care and/or medical attention.

I understand that I cannot sell or give away the hedgehog I purchase from Kelly’s Quills and that I must in agreement with the contract return it to Kelly’s Quills to be placed in another home or to live out the remainder of its life in Kelly’s Quills care.

I understand that a hedgehog is not considered the best pet for a child under the age of 10, but I as an adult will take responsibility for the care and needs of the hedgehog.

I understand that the hedgehog I am purchasing is not to be bred under any circumstance and that if I want a hedgehog for breeding purposes I will ask Kelly’s Quills for a breeder contract.

I understand that purchasing a hedgehog (or any pet) is not to be done lightly and that it is up to me to do as much research as possible before bringing a hedgehog into my home.

 

If you can answer “yes” to all of these questions then you may proceed with purchasing one of our hedgehogs!

 

You must fill out the adoption application if you are interested in a hedgehog! I will not sell a hedgehog to you unless I have an application on file!!!!

 

You MUST be over 18 to fill out the adoption application!!!!!

Pickup/Shipping & Sales Policies

I offer pickup in  Slidell, LA at my home.  Pickup location will be provided when the hedgehog is ready to go home. My address is not provided on here! Delivery service is available. Fees are based on mileage – .50$ a mile and $10/hour.

If you cannot pick up your baby within 3 days of the day it is able to go home arrangements must be made to pay for the hedgehog in full. If the hedgehog is not paid in full within those 3 days he/she will be placed as available and your deposit will be forfeited. No warning will be given! I will hold the hedgehog for 7 days after the day he/she is ready to go home if paid in full! After that 7 days $5/day boarding fee will apply.

I will occasionally ship.  I reserve the right to determine when it is appropriate to ship a hedgehog.  This will largely depend on the safety of our hedgehogs travel to your house.I will not book a flight that departs the airport before 11 am! Shipping prices vary. I require a minimum of 3 hedgehogs to be shipped. I only ship inside the US and am no longer able to ship to Canada. I am not responsible for anything that happens during shipping!!!

There are several places where hedgehogs are illegal.  I will not ship to states & locations that hedgehogs are illegal.

We reserve the right to refuse to sell to anyone at anytime for any reason!

Our hedgehogs will go to pet homes only! I will sell opposite sexes to USDA licensed breeders only! You must have owned a hedgehog for its lifetime before I will sell you a breeding pair. If you have a female hedgehog, I will NOT sell you a male (or vice versa). Don’t even ask!

Most hedgehogs are $225 each with the exception of these colors/markings:

Albino – $200

Leucistic or Black eyed whites – $250

Reverse pinto – $275

Blaze face – $275

Split face – $290

Algerian black – $325.

Health

I have a 6 month guarantee on my hedgehogs. I will replace your hedgehog if it dies within that time period. A vet necropsy must be provided stating that the hedgehog had a congenital problem (something it was born with or a hereditary problem). I will not replace a hedgehog if something happened to it due to negligence, injury, improper diet, or illness due to it not being taken care of properly.

Deposit Policies

Deposit price is $50. The deposit is non-refundable. The amount of your deposit will be deducted from the balance you owe at pick up. I will take deposits through Paypal or cash only. No personal checks and no money orders!!!  If you are paying through paypal you can send it to me at hedgehogs@kellysquills.com. A 3% fee is required to be added to all paypal payments! That will make deposit price $52! I will give you 24 hours after you request to hold a baby. If the deposit has not been received, the hedgehog will be placed as available with no notice given!

Ownership

Kelly’s Quills retains partial ownership of all babies sold. When you purchase a hedgehog from us you are responsible for all care costs including housing, feeding, veterinary care, etc. However, if at any time you decide a hedgehog is not the right pet for you or circumstances change the hedgehog MUST be returned to us at buyers expense/time. You may not sell or give away your hedgehog! Failure to comply with this condition can result in legal action. While this may sound harsh we do this to ensure that the hedgehog we helped to create is always properly cared for and loved.

Return Policies

If you decide after you get your hedgehog that it is not the right pet for you please contact me and I will take it and re home it. Please don’t sell it!

I will take hedgehog back at any time but a refund will only be given with in 30 days.

Percentage given if the hedgehog is returned within 14 days is 50%. If the baby is returned in between 15 and 30 days a 25% refund is given. After 31 days it is considered a rescue and no money will be returned.

Payment Policies

I will take paypal for deposits ONLY. Cash is required for pick up. I DO NOT take personal checks!!

Carriers for pick up

You must bring an appropriate carrier for transporting your hedgehog home.  The carrier must snap, zip, or lock closed. I will make no exceptions!

Please do not use a wire cage to house your hedgehog. They will get their little feet stuck in the wires and get hurt! They are dangerous and are intended for rats, mice, hamsters, etc. Not for hedgehogs!
